Director of Spiritual Care and Culture – Two Positions
We are looking for two new members to join our senior teams at Fairview and Parkwood Seniors Communities in a unique new role.

The successful candidate for Director of Spiritual Care and Culture will have these assets and qualifications:
- Understands the frail, elderly and socially vulnerable population served by our community
- Has Post-secondary education in theology, Biblical studies or equivalent
- Master’s level training in related field and/or Master of Divinity (preferred)
- Training from the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) is an asset.
- Deep knowledge and familiarity with Anabaptist/Mennonite biblical understanding and community
- Experience or willingness to lead in a multi-faith setting and build an inclusive setting honouring all faiths
- Understands the dimensions of Spiritual Care; recognizing the whole person
- Has demonstrated experience commensurate with a senior team leadership role
- Experienced in community outreach
- Able to navigate social and family dynamics
- Fluency in French (Fairview campus) is an asset.
- Fluency in German (Parkwood campus) is an asset.
- Musical ability is an asset.
- Demonstrates empathy, cultural sensitivity and understanding of the needs of seniors, and ideally, have experience working with residents living in the community and in a retirement environment
Reporting to the respective Executive Directors, each Director of Spiritual Care and Culture is responsible for the delivery of Care and Services to the residents, volunteers, staff and communities supported by Fairview and Parkwood, including:
Responsibilities to Campus Residents, Family, Friends, Volunteers, and Community at Large:
- Develop meaningful relationships (internal and external)
- Organize and/or lead spiritual worship, ceremonies, rites of passage, rituals, meditation and prayer as indicated by the current resident population to meet their spiritual and other needs to support personal growth and healing
- Provide relationship-focused chaplaincy
- Perform Spiritual Assessment on residents and participates in the Care Conferences of all long-term care residents
- Provide individual visitation with residents as needed
- Facilitate contact with the resident’s former community/faith groups as applicable
- Provide crisis intervention for experiences such as grief, illness and death
- Provide end-of-life support to residents
- Organize events to support the culture and/or faith of residents
Responsibilities to Campus Residents’ Families and Friends:
- Support family members, e.g., being staff liaison to Family Council, organizing Family Information Groups for new families
- Provide end-of-life support to family members and friends
Responsibilities to the Organization:
- Participate in operational planning with a focus on the spiritual and cultural needs of the Campus
- Provide leadership to the Palliative Care Committee either formally as Chair or as an active member of the committee
- Organize and lead Memorial Services 2-3 times per year
- Adhere to and promote the mission statement of the organization
- Attend and host local faith interest groups as applicable
Total Team Responsibility:
- Act as a spiritual and cultural resource for residents, family members, volunteers and staff
